Yes, women generally have about 20 times lower concentrations of testosterone than men do, but it's a still a vital player in the lean muscle game. A decrease in testosterone will not only make you feel like a slug, it can lead to scary stuff like heart disease and diabetes. There are a few ways to increase the levels of testosterone in your body and weight lifting is one of them.

Testosterone plays a role in muscle strength and mass, bone density as well as fat distribution and red blood cell production.

The body responds to large compound movement exercises by producing testosterone. However...weightlifting also activates the production of the stress hormone, cortisol, which cancels out testosterone. To avoid this keep weight lifting routines short and intense. Weight bearing exercises raise testosterone levels. To gain maximum advantage you should concentrate on performing compound lifts that target more than one muscle group and joint to perform.
